List of browsers supporting HTML 5

Html5 is still under development and is subject to change. It is said that Html 5 will become the standard for web based mark up language. However, not all browsers support it yet.

List of browsers supporting Html5

Popular browsers like Internet Explorer, Chrome, Safari and Opera offer limited support for Html5. I analyzed some of the popular browsers and used a website called Html5Test.com to evaluate the level of support available in these browsers.

The score given below indicate how well the browser support various HTML5 specifications. The bonus points indicate how well the browser handled some of the video/audio codecs and few other new features. The bonus points are not included in the score since those features are not part of the official HTML 5 specifications.

Here is the result of my Html5 compatibility test:
Browser NameCompatibility ScoreBonus Score
Google Chrome29313
Opera2587
FireFox2559
Safari1870
Internet Explorer1305

You can see that Google Chrome offers the best support for Html5 at this time (June 2011). Internet Explorer 9.0 performs very poor according to the compatibility test by Html5Test.

The compatibility test is not a comprehensive test. This test does not cover all aspects of Html 5 and but is sure to give a rough idea of the level of support available in various browsers. But this test will surely give you some idea on the level of support in each of the browsers.

If you are planning to learn HTML5, your best bet at this time is to use Google Chrome browser for testing.
